Aviation Taxation
In 2009 and 2010 Air Passenger Duty (APD), the UK’s unilateral passenger tax was increased dramatically, combined these increases will be a substantial hike in long haul taxes, for instance a 113% increase on the longest routes, e.g. UK-Australia, between 2008 and 2010. This increase in the cost of long haul flying will impact on air links between the UK and key global economies, including those of India, the Middle East, and China.
The AOA remains opposed to these increases. Even by the Government’s own figures aviation covers its external environmental cost by £0.2bn in 2007 (Emissions Cost Assessment 2008).
