Regulating Air Transport

In March 2010 AOA responded to the Government consultation on proposals to change the regulation of air transport. The consultation proposed new objectives for the CAA, these included:

  • Replacing and update Section 4 of the Civil Aviation Act 1982;
  • Ensure the CAA focuses on three main priorities; consumers, safety and the environment when exercising its regulatory functions;

The proposal was supported by the Conservative and Liberal Democrats. In the 2010 Queens Speech, the Government said that it would bring forward legislation to update the regulatory framework of airports. In July the Government announced the direction of these proposals. We currently await the first draft of the bill.
