AOA CHAIRMAN SETS OUT AIRPORTS’ AGENDA TO NEW AVIATION MINISTER

  • “Aviation is the doorway that opens Britain for business” says AOA chairman
  • AOA calls on Government to fully consider the costs and benefits of reforming Air Passenger Duty

Ed Anderson, Chairman of the Airport Operators Association, will use his speech at the AOA’s Annual Reception today to stress the importance of successful airports in getting Britain open for business. The aviation sector represents 1.5% of the UK economy, contributing £18.4bn towards UK GDP and providing jobs for 234,000 people.

“The Ash Crisis earlier this year has demonstrated how far we rely on aviation to function properly. We cannot simply take it for granted.

“Aviation is the doorway that opens Britain for business. We need to work with Government to make sure that door remains firmly open. For that reason I welcome the decision in last month’s Budget to fully examine the case for reforming Air Passenger Duty.

“A Per Plane Duty has the potential to do more harm than good both to airports and the wider economy, particularly in the regions. Full consideration of the costs and benefits is vital, as is public consultation at the appropriate time.
