An airline boss has said that new routes into Durham Tees Valley airport could create a number of jobs, it has emerged.
According to Karl Hogstadius, the airport could become popular with businesses and tourists, especially from eastern European countries, such as Poland.
Mr Hogstadius said that the airport could be the hub of a "massive market" and predicts that up to 100 new jobs could be created as a result of a potential boom, reports the Evening Gazette.
He told the newspaper: "The area offers us a huge catchment area, a potential 2.3 million passengers.
"Combine that with our good range of low-price, punctual flights and we can create a massive market."
Businessmen and women wishing to fly from Tees Valley airport to Brussels can do so via Eastern Airways from October.
The airport has said that the route is "strategically important" for local businesses and the north-east's pharmaceutical, biotechnology and petro-chemical sectors.
