Ryanair announces priority boarding changes

Ryanair has today announced changes to its priority boarding service - an optional extra which enables passengers to board their flights first.

Until now web check-in passengers have received this service free of charge; however, from June 3rd all passengers using the propriety boarding service will be required to pay £4/ €5.

In a statement the airline said passengers would have the option to either pay for the service at the time of booking or at the airport on the day of their flight.

Speaking earlier today, Ryanir's Lorna Farren commented: "By charging the same fee for priority boarding for both web check-in and airport check-in passengers, we hope to ensure that priority boarding seats will always be available for sale at airports for family members and groups who wish to purchase it."

She added that due to the popularity of the carrier's online check-in facility flights had been selling out of priority boarding tickets.

Last month the airline increased the amount passengers are charged for checked items of baggage.
