Amsterdam Airport given top award

The great and the good of aviation have gathered to praise the sector''s top performers.

ACI''s fifth annual Europe Best Airport Awards saw Amsterdam Airport Schiphol walk away with the night''s top honour.

The travel hub was named as the best facility in the over-25 million passengers section, with its community relations and environmental awareness campaigns cited as reasons for its triumph.

Elsewhere, TAV Ankara Esenboga Airport was named number one in the five to ten million consumers category.

The ten to 25 million award went to Palma de Mallorca Airport, with its "exceptional success in defying the seasonality associated with its status as a holiday destination" noted.

Meanwhile, the Aeroporto G Marconi Di Bologna Spa hub took the top prize in the one to five million passenger category.

In other industry news, figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority earlier this week showed that airport punctuality improved in the UK during the first three months of 2009.
