In 1995 Birmingham International's MAGLEV peoplemover link was retired. The lack of reliability of this prototype system had grown to such a point that MAGLEV was no longer viable. Immediately a replacement system was sought to link the passenger terminals and the mainline rail station but, as Andrew Cliffe, construction manager of transportation projects, explains, it was not until recently that progress began to be made.
