On February 25 AOA Chairman and LGW MD Roger Cato launched new training materials designed to improve airside driving safety. Developed by ASIG for the AOA, these new guidelines are aiming to create a national framework of good practice for this area of airport ops.

Donal Dowds, MD of BAA Scottish Airports and now the AOA’s newly elected Chairman, takes the helm as the UK Airport industry faces one of its biggest periods of uncertainty. Delays in the government’s white paper, the will they/won’t they nature of the Gulf situation and the rise and rise of the low cost carriers have created a very unpredictable short-term outlook. He spoke to Adam Jeffery about the future, what it may mean for the industry and what the AOA will do to support it through these uncertain times.

In November 2002, the first phase was launched of an innovative management training scheme run by the University of York, in association with the AOA. The university has been closely associated with the AOA since 1996 and has worked with the Training and Development Committee to develop the programme.
