It has certainly been an interesting summer for those of us who work in aviation.We have had to endure continuing criticism of the security situation, which was blown out of all proportion by the media, and perceived shortcomings all over the place, many of which are beyond our control (such as immigration queues).

EuroManx Airlines reached a milestone in its history on 1 August, when it announced the one-millionth passenger to travel on its Isle of Man routes. The airline operates four routes off the island – London City, Manchester, Liverpool and Belfast City.

European private equity firm Bridgepoint acquired Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) in May 2007 in a deal worth £145.5 million, following a decision by five West Yorkshire councils to sell 100% of the share capital in the airport. During late 2006 and early 2007, TPS was engaged to support Bridgepoint during the LBIA sale process.

Dublin Airport Authority opened its newest check-in area – Check-in Area 14 – in April. The 1,000sqm facility is located in the basement of Terminal 1 and increases capacity by four million, easing the congestion that has resulted from strong passenger growth; throughput was almost 11 million in the first half of 2007 – up 11% year-on-year.
