UK AIRPORTS CALL FOR SHARE IN ANY VOLCANO COMPENSATION PACKAGE
- Disruption to flights from closure of airspace cost UK airports “tens of millions”
- Any deal for the aviation industry will need to take airports’ losses into account
As airlines step up their campaign for agreement on a package of compensation measures, AOA today stressed that any deal reached would need to take into account the impact of last week’s flight disruption on the UK airport network.
AOA Chairman Ed Anderson said “the cost of disruption for airlines and airports industry alone is £130 million a day. Airports losses overall amount to tens of millions of pounds”.
“Airports saw a total cessation of revenues that result from passenger flows through the terminals- the vast majority of airports’ revenues. This came on top of an already difficult operating environment.
“Airlines are, quite rightly, clear that there must be a compensation package for the aviation industry, to make good the impact of the recent disruption. Airports need to be part of such a package.
