AOA Chairman to stand down next March

The Chairman of the UK Airport Operators Association (AOA), Ed Anderson, has announced that he will stand down at the end of his current term at the Annual General Meeting on 5th March 2019, after 11 years in post.

Ed’s career in aviation began 37 years ago when he became Assistant Airport Director at Leeds Bradford Airport.  He also served as Deputy Chief Executive at East Midlands Airport from 1987 to 1990 and CEO of Leeds Bradford Airport from 1997 to 2007.  He then became the Chairman of the AOA in 2008.

In addition to his career in aviation, Ed has also had successful careers in local government, higher education and financial services.  On 1 September 2018, Ed was appointed by The Queen as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire.

Ed said, “I have greatly enjoyed working in aviation over these past 37 years and I am proud that I will leave the AOA in such strong shape, as the premier lobbying and representative body in the sector.”

Robert Sinclair, Chair of the AOA Appointments and Remuneration Committee and CEO of London City Airport, said “Ed has been an outstanding Chairman of the AOA for over a decade, raising the profile of the UK airport sector and representing its interests throughout all levels of government.  The Board, member airports and partners of the AOA wish to record their sincere thanks to Ed for his commitment, enthusiasm and dedication to our industry, and we wish him all the very best in his new role as Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire.”

The Board of the AOA has now commenced a search process to recruit a new Chair.
